WHIA PONY EXPRESS For BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER at Thomas Divide Saturday, June 25th

Hello everyone, we are having a Hike and Ride on our property, The Settlement at Thomas Divide in Bryson City , on Saturday June 25, to raise money for breast cancer survivors.   I do hope you will be able to join us.   We would love you to join together with your friends, and form a “team”, just register under that team name, and maybe win an award to be given at our awards dinner .

We are starting the day at 8.00 am with coffee and a light breakfast, for those who would like to ride or hike the three mile course, and then set of on their own into the Park to make a day of it.   For those who would prefer to just hike or ride the property, come a little later, enjoy some lunch if you will, enjoy your ride or hike (which you can cut shorter if you will).   After this, please explore the vendors and enjoy a beautiful afternoon in the Smoky Mountains!

For those who might like to know more about this charity that helps breast cancer survivors in need, please read the following story:

Renee Wasnik-Soto passed away at 40-years-old last fall. She truly epitomized the Equestrian Aid Foundation’s mission to assist those suffering with a catastrophic illnesses and injuries. She was a USEF “R” judge, trainer and instructor at a hunter/jumper “ranch” in Arizona. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, which later metastasized to her brain and liver. Renee was fortunate to have a respite of remission, however, when the cancer returned early last year,it did so with a vengeance.

Five tumors were found in Renee’s brain, but only two could be removed by surgery. The others were treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapies. During this time, her sister told us, “all Renee wants to do is get back to teaching her kids.”

She requested that the Equestrian Aid Foundation respect her anonymity during her medical treatment, however, asked us to share her story posthumously. Like many EAF recipients, Renee was a pillar in the equestriancommunity and showed her strength throughout her illness. She continued to be  grateful for her ability to get up each morning and go to the barn.

The Equestrian Aid Foundation provides financial assistance to equestrians, horsemen and equine-related professionals suffering from catastrophic illnesses and injuries. The EAF funds medical, rehabilitation and essential expenses – such as housing and food – throughout a time of need.
